ICAR’s goal is to bring about a situation in which no woman is trapped in a destructive or unwanted marriage.
In working toward this goal, the coalition has defined three areas of activity:
- The Social and Political Area - raising awareness to the issue of agunot and mesuravot get and changing society's attitude to it so that it is considered to be a social problem and not only a problem of a specific woman. Changing the accepted norm in relation to get recalcitrance so that it is seen as an abusive and violent act.
- The Educational Area - preventing cases of get recalcitrance through education of the public with regard to the issue in general, the possible solutions available within Halcha and the importance of the general principals of equality, respect and freedom within the marital framework.
- The Legal Area - placing the issue of agunot and mesuravot get high on the agenda of decision makers, public representatives and religeous personas.Changing existing legislation to further equality between the sexes in Family Law. Improving the status of women appearing before the rabbinical courts and lobbying for enforcement of existing solutions to the problem.
- The Halachic Area - promoting the usage of solutions within Jewish Law in order to bring about equality between men and women within Family Law both in the secular and religeous courts.
